Thursday 30 July

Breakfast. Later in the morning we will make our way to the Passion Play. Our hotel is within walking distance to the venue. In the 16th Century, during the 30th year war, after much suffering and plague, the people of Oberammergau made a vow to hold the passion play every ten years. With 2400 participants who must be either born or long-time residents of the town, the Passion Play is the longest-running in the world. This massive stage production brings to life the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, covering the time frame from the entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the Crucifixion, recounting the suffering, death and resurrection. The performance is held between 2.30 pm till 5.00 pm while the second part runs from 8.00 pm till 10.30 pm. Dinner will be in a nearby restaurant during the intermission.

Friday 31 July

We leave Oberammergau and proceed to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Located amidst breath-taking mountain scenery, at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, this town is the epitome of vast and pristine alpine nature. It is a unique place in an awesome setting. One has the opportunity to walk around the picturesque town, especially the beautiful Ludwigstrasse with its many painted houses or take the Cog-Train to the Mountains as far as the Zugspitze itself at 3000 meters (train ticket is extra). The views are stunning with mountain ranges that extend into Switzerland and Austria. Alternatively, one has time for shopping in the colourful main street (Hauptstrasse) with its branded shops and delightful coffee shops. Transfer to Munich’s airport in the afternoon for our flight back to Malta departing at 6.50 pm.
